About Micro-enterprises

What is a Micro-enterprise?

A micro-enterprise allows scholars to pursue their passions while enhancing their personal growth, employability, and earning potential. The "small business" microenterprise scholars will build valuable relationships and expand support networks through increased interactions with customers and community members. Our four scholars are hard at work and are excited to share their experiences with you at the Painted Tree!

Come see us at the Painted Tree: 8201 NW Roanridge Rd. Kansas City, MO 64151 to see our Exceptional Micro Market.

*We will be in aisle C*

Meet Amy

Amy's colorful mind and internal worlds shine through her art. From novel writing to comic development, Amy does it all. Showcased here is Amy's imagination put to paper. From an early age, Amy used art as a means of expression and emotional release. Amy aspires to be a published author, rock star, and visual icon- and in her free time, prefers extensive WWE episodes. Within the Painted Tree booth, Amy has postcards, letter cards, and printed copies of her art on canvas. All inspired by her awesome and mysterious brain!

Meet David

David creates vibrant Piñatas that celebrate resilience, heritage, and his family. Drawing inspiration from his childhood trips to Mexico, his work is a tribute to his mother, who began crafting Piñatas as a source of income after a life-altering accident. Making Piñatas has made him closer to his mother and aided in his recovery. David loves sports, music, and his family. Within the Painted Tree booth, David has Piñatas hanging in the corner.

Meet Dumaga

Dumaga's photography began as a creative outlet, but quickly turned into a form of communication and a way for him to connect with those around him. Dumaga has been 'Hard-of-Hearing' since birth, and utilizes American Sign Language as his first language. He's a competitive sports enthusiast, a talented artist, and a fantastic friend to everyone he encounters. Dumaga is currently making progress towards his ambitious future, where he sees himself going to college to be an Automotive Technician in the upcoming fall. Within the Painted Tree booth, Dumaga has larger-scale photographs printed on canvas, plus a few postcards. Most of which are from the scenery around our offices.

Meet Justyce

Justyce is a photographer with a great love of capturing the world through his eyes. His grandparents started a non-profit organization to fund Autism programs

across the nation, the Vintage Car Rally Association. Justyce began taking photos of vintage cars with his grandpa, and his passion was born. His favorite things to capture are nature, Kansas City architecture, and any cool vehicle. Within the Painted Tree booth, Justyce has larger-scale photographs printed on canvas, small canvases, and postcards. Most of which are of local, KC landmarks.
